Niagara County Sheriff Jim Voutour recently announced that Deputy Roger C. Schreader II has been selected by the “100 Club of Buffalo” as one of the 2009 Heroes Award. The prestigious 100 Club of Buffalo began in 1962 (www.100clubbuffalo.org) and its motto is “serving those who serve”. The Heroes Award is presented to First Responders who have demonstrated an act of service that goes above and beyond the call of duty.
On August 29 at 5:52am, Deputy Schreader responded to a head-on crash on South Transit Road in the Town of Lockport. Upon arrival, Deputy Schreader found Charlene Cescon trapped in her vehicle with severe injuries. Deputy Schreader also noticed the car was burning so he broke out the driver’s window with a fire extinguisher and cut the seat belt of Ms. Cescon, safely removing her moments before the entire car burned up. The other driver, Gary Miles of Lockport, was recently sentenced to 3 to 7 years in State prison for first degree vehicular assault. His blood alcohol level was .21%.
Deputy Schreader will be honored on February 26, 2010 at the Country Club of Buffalo, 250 N. Youngs Road, Williamsville at 6:00pm.
