Christopher J. Moss joined the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office in 1989 as a Special Deputy. Later that year, he was promoted to the rank of Deputy Sheriff and served in that position until 1994 when he was promoted to Investigator. While assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division (CID), Sheriff Moss attained the rank of Sergeant. He left CID to become a Lieutenant in the Road Patrol Division in 2001. In May of 2005, Sheriff Moss was transferred back to CID where he became the Division Commander. In 2005, Sheriff Moss was elected to a four year term replacing retired Sheriff Charles D.W. Houper.

Sheriff Moss possesses an AAS Degree from Corning Community College and is a graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy. He is also a New York State Counter-Terrorism Instructor and teaches at the Basic Course for Police Officers and the Supervisors’ School on a regular basis. In Sheriff Moss’ spare time, he enjoys softball, fishing and hunting. Sheriff Moss received the Chemung County Sheriffs Office’s Deputy of the Year Award in 1994 and was the 2001 recipient of the Edmond C. Wilkins Professionalism in Law Enforcement Award. Chemung County has a population of 91,070 and an area of 412 square miles.
