Monroe County Senior Citizen Police Academy Program

Monroe County Sheriff Patrick O'Flynn developed the Senior Citizen
Police Academy program as a means of providing citizens with an
in-depth view of the Sheriff's Office. The academy serves as means to
break down barriers between the community and law enforcement and
improve community partnerships. The 8-week academy is comprised of
lectures, field trips, and hands-on activities that enhance the
education process.

Recently, about 30 residents from the Town of Penfield, NY, graduated from the Senior Citizen Police Academy. During one session, seniors had the opportunity to speak with deputies assigned to Sheriff's Office Specialized Units, including SWAT, SCUBA, K-9 and the Mounted Unit. Equipment and vehicles used by the units was on display the day of the event.
The Sheriff’s Office conducts three Senior Citizen Police Academies throughout Monroe County on an annual basis.
