Sheriff Dan Middaugh, elected Sheriff in 1994, has 37 years of criminal justice experience with the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Middaugh began his career in the Sheriff’s Corrections Division in 1970. In 1973, he was promoted to Sergeant/Training Officer. In 1978, he was promoted to Corrections Lieutenant and was named Jail Administrator. He was promoted again in 1980 to Captain, and continued to serve as Jail Administrator until his election as Sheriff. In 1986, Dan helped establish a Risk-Management Program aimed at reducing the number of jail suicides. He is a Certified Police and Correction Trainer and has served as Regional Training Coordinator for the Commission of Correction. He attended Mohawk Valley Community College and has an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. He served in the United States Army as a Military Policeman and is a Vietnam Veteran. Sheriff Middaugh served the Sheriffs’ Association as Sergeant-at-Arms, Treasurer, Secretary, 3rd Vice President, 2nd Vice President, and 1st Vice President and was the Association’s President in 2006. He now serves on the Association’s Executive Committee.
