Jim Kralik has been with the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office for 42 years. During that time, he rose through the ranks and had been the Chief of Patrol for 20 years, before being elected Sheriff in November of 1991 and re-elected in 1995, 1999, 2003, and 2007. During his tenure as Sheriff, he has developed many innovative policies such as, the Crime Awareness Program (C.A.P.) for local students; a full security/anti-terrorist manual; and implemented a handbook “Focusing On Fair Treatment For All” which is being used in many jurisdictions as a law enforcement training manual on cultural diversity. In addition, Sheriff Kralik is responsible for bringing to fruition TRIAD for seniors, the C.A.R.E. (Computer Aided Rescue Efforts) for children, a full time Mounted Unit, a full time Marine Unit, a Forensic Computer Unit, an ICAC Satellite Task Force and an Anti-Terrorism Analytical Group (ATAG). The Sheriff serves on the Counter-Terrorism Executive Committee for New York State and was the first Chairman of the Zone 4 Counter-Terrorism Committee in Rockland County. He is responsible for the development of the counter-terrorism posters, the Operation Rockland Watch Program and security training classes for public and private sectors within the Zone. He has also generated over $8 million in grants for additional staff and equipment. Rockland County has a population of 300,000 and an area of 176 square miles.
