Thomas Belfiore joined the New York City Police Department in January of 1981 and steadily rose through the ranks. Belfiore has many notable experiences and accomplishments, including representing the NYC Police Department in Jerusalem, Israel where he exchanged strategies with the Israeli National Police relative to anti-terrorism security measures. In addition, he provided training to the Nigerian National Police on management and operational matters in conjunction with the FBI and the US Department of State. He is a former adjunct professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, lecturing on behalf of the US Department of Justice. He has been awarded (on several occasions) New York City Police Department recognition in the grades of “Commendation, Meritorious Police Duty, and the Excellent Police Duty” for exceptional acts of bravery or intelligent policing, and is the recipient of numerous awards from diverse communities in recognition of dedicated, professional and responsive police service. The Sheriff was named Westchester County Sheriff in 2003. He is a graduate of John Jay College of Criminal Justice with a B.S., Police Science (Cum Laude) and Master of Arts, Criminal Justice. He serves on the Municipal Police Training Council. Westchester County has a population of 900,000.
