John M. York, Sheriff of Livingston County

As Chairman of the New York State Sheriffs' Association Executive Committee it is my goal and the goal of the Association to continue to strive to improve the quality of public safety response to the constituents of the Sheriff's in their respective counties across New York State.

It is our goal to work to strengthen the Office of Sheriff in this state and this country so that the recognition of the office is as it should be, one of the most responsive and accountable public service agencies in this country. The Sheriff's in New York State is still in most counties elected by the people and accountable to the people for both service and quality of service. As constitutional elected Sheriff's we recognize and accept that we have been given a special trust and confidence by the citizens and employees for whom we have been elected to serve, represent and manage. This trust in confidence is our bond to ensure that we shall behave and act according to the highest personal and professional standards mandated in this office.

It is our goal to work with the law enforcement entities in New York State be it village, town, state or federal responders to provide the best most cost effective service to the people of New York State.
