Sheriff David Harrison, Jr. is in his first term as Columbia County Sheriff. He has risen through the ranks since joining the Office in 1984. He has served as Chairman of the Zone 14 Counter Terrorism Committee and county representative to the NYS Weapons of Mass Destruction Task Force. He is a police instructor and member of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association, Session # 48. Since taking Office, Sheriff Harrison has increased annual in-service training of Deputy Sheriffs and Corrections staff, adding topics such as Cultural Diversity. He has created four Sheriff s Outpost offices which are fully equipped and connected to the Public Safety Facility so patrols can process arrests and complete reports in the field. He also created the position of Director of Information Technology to stay current with the changing technology requirements associated with the duties of the Sheriff s Office. Sheriff Harrison has been a volunteer firefighter with the Spencertown Fire Co. for twenty five years and is a life-long resident of Columbia County. He and his wife Kelly have three sons.
