Sheriff
Tom Lorey began his law enforcement career as a Police Officer with the
Village of Mayfield in 1970, following a tour of duty with the United States
Navy. In 1972, he joined the Gloversville City Police Department and during
that time he served as a Patrolman, Youth Aid Officer and Detective. While
with the Gloversville Police Department, he attended Fulton-Montgomery
Community College’s Criminal Justice Program. Upon retirement in 1992,
Sheriff Lorey joined the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department. Finding rural
law enforcement to his liking, he successfully sought the Office of Sheriff.
He first took office in January of 1996 and has since developed a K-9
Program, as well as a Dive Team and an Emergency Response Team. The Fulton
County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for dispatching all emergency
services in Fulton County. The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office operates a
correctional facility with 167 beds. Fulton County has a population of
53,000 and an area of 533 square miles.
