Lindsay Eason was
appointed as the 119th Sheriff of the City of New York by Mayor Michael M.
Bloomberg, in January 2002. Taking office only four months after 9/11,
Sheriff Eason, under the Department of Finance headed by Commissioner Martha
E. Start, has spearheaded many organizational changes dealing with disaster
relief and increased security for the City. Sheriff Eason has previously
retired as Sergeant after 23 years of service with the New York City Police
Department. He spent 13 years as an instructor at the police academy. His
last assignment was in Police Commissioner Bratton’s Office, assigned to his
security detail. Sheriff Eason received his B.S. in Police Studies from John
Jay College and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy Session 165, a
former member of the NYPD Guardians Association, and a member of the New
York State Sheriffs’ Association. New York City has a population of over 8
million and an area of 321.8 square miles. |
