Harry
Buffardi is a 30 year veteran of the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office. He
has served in every level within the Office, including eight years as
Undersheriff. For a four year period, he was assigned to the Capital
District Drug Enforcement Task Force where he served as a team leader with
investigators from DEA, State Police, Sheriff’s Offices and municipal police
agencies. He was the first full service K-9 dog handler in Upstate NY. In
1999, he was selected as Advisory Board Member of Municipal Police Training
Academy Zone 5, and in 2001, elected Chairman of the Schenectady County
Traffic Safety Board. That same year, Sheriff Buffardi was commissioned by
the New York State Sheriffs’ Association to help set up and command the
Cadaver Dog K-9 Teams, the Freshkill Landfill crime scene site on Staten
Island for the World Trade Center disaster. The Sheriff has a Bachelors
Degree in Criminal Justice from SUNY Empire State College and a Masters
Degree from Syracuse University. He has attended numerous law enforcement
and corrections schools. He serves on the faculty at the Schenectady
Community College. Sheriff Buffardi has written an important academic paper
titled The History of the Office of Sheriff. It can be found on the internet
