Sheriff Michael A. Schiff began his first term as Sullivan County Sheriff on January 1st, 2006. He is a 28 year veteran of the New York State Police, having served as a K-9 handler and firearms instructor. His experience includes the 1979 prison strike, the 1980 winter Olympics, the St. Regis Mohawk crises, several Woodstock reunions, the World Trade Center Attack on 9/11 and the Republican National convention in NYC. Sheriff Schiff is a life long resident of Sullivan County. He resides in Liberty, NY with his wife and four children. Sullivan County has a population of 73,966 and has an area of 969.7 square miles.
