As
Sheriff, Ron Spike is fulfilling a childhood dream. His father was also
Yates County Sheriff, and Ron grew up living in the Sheriff’s residence,
attached to the county jail. Upon graduation from Monroe Community College,
he was hired as a Deputy Sheriff in 1970. He has held positions of Criminal
Investigator and Chief Deputy before becoming Sheriff in 1992. He was the
1981 New York State Sheriffs’ Association’s Deputy of the Year. Spike has
attended numerous training courses, including the FBI National Academy and
the National Sheriffs’ Institute. Yates County Sheriff’s Office is a full
service New York State accredited law enforcement agency. He was President
of the New York State Sheriffs' Association in 2000 and represents them on
the Ethics and Training and the Court Security Committees of the National
Sheriffs’ Association. Sheriff Spike has been Chairman of the New York State
Municipal Police Training Council by appointment of the Governor since 1997.
Yates County is home to the New York State Sheriffs’ Summer Camp on Keuka
Lake. The County has a population of 33,000, which doubles during the
summer, and an area of 334 miles with 64 miles of shoreline on three Finger
Lakes. |
